Sri Lanka: SF HQ in Vavuniya Came under Air and Shell attacks by the LTTE

Vavuniya - The liberation Tigers of Tamil Eealm (LTTE) opened up barrage of shell attacks on the Joseph Military Complex, Sri Lankan Security Forces head quarter (HQ) in Vavuniya for more than two hours. At least eleven heavy explosions in the HQ area followed by heavy gun fire till 5:00 a.m.
Meanwhile, two Tamileelam Air Force (TAF) bombers air born over Vavuniya area and dropped at least four bombs on the Sri Lankan Security Forces head quarter (HQ).
Civilian sources claimed Sri Lankan Security Forces head quarter (HQ) suffered extensive damages but more details are awaited by the TNS reporter in the area.
Another unconfirmed report indicated, LTTE’s black Tiger attacks also carried out on the Sri Lankan Security Forces head quarter (HQ).
Sri Lankan defence ministry admitted there were LTTE attacks on the Sri Lankan Security Forces head quarters (HQ) in Vavuniya. They claimed that their forces counter-attacked the Tiger aircrafts, but their was no indication of any aircraft coming down, according to civilian sources. But Sri Lankan Air Forces (SLAF) fighter planes bombed heavy residential area in Mullaithivu at about 4:20 a.m and 5:30 am.
According to the militray sources, at least 10 SF troopers were killed and 15 SF troopers were wounded. One police constable was killed and 8 other police constables sustained injuries due to the enemy artillery fire. Sevene Air Force personnel also badly wouneded.
The LTTE’s TAF two weeks back attacked Trincomalee harbour caused extensive damages to the lives dozens of SLN forces and their equipments.
TAF aircrafts last April dropped at least 3 bombs on Sri Lanka Army forward defense lines in the Weli Oya sector. LTTE targeted the 22-3 brigade headquarters and a gun position where army's Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers were stationed.
SLAF's failed to intercept the TAF in at least 6 of their bombing missions against their targets against Sri Lanka in the past 16 months.
Escalated fighting and violence in Vanni area made close to 200,000 civilians internally displaced and these people are living under the trees, schools, churches and many other temporary shelters with limited or no access food, medicines and basic essentials, local NGOs’ sources told TNS.
Three decades old civil war in Sri Lanka killed at least 215,000 people according to the surveys done by the UN World Health Organization and data released by them recently. On Monday, the government ordered all aid workers out of the battle zone.
