Lankan HC damaged in deadly Pak blast
The Sri Lankan High Commission office in Pakistan and the residence of High Commissioner, K.D. Dorakumbura sustained damages in yesterday’s suicide bomb attack which killed an estimated 60 people and wounded more than 200.
A High Commission spokesman in Islamabad told The Sunday Times by telephone last night that at the time of the blast, only a few staff members were at the mission and the High Commissioner was at his residence, and no one was hurt in the incident.
Both, the High Commission and the residence were located less than one kilometre away from the scene of the blast at the entrance to the five-star Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.The spokesman said there were no reports about any Sri Lankans being affected by the blast.
Sri Lanka was last night yet to condemn the terrorist attack as condemnations from other countries poured in. Britain and the United States were among the several countries that condemned the incident.
