ROMULUS, Mich. A 40-year-old Sri Lankan man escaped deportation from the United States but now faces a charge which may put him behind bars for 10 years, reports said.

They said the man identified as Sarath Dahanayakage threw a tantrum aboard a London-bound jetliner, warning the passengers that all were going to die.

Officials said Dhanayakage entered the U.S. on a fake Singapore passport in 2007 and later was caught trying to enter Windsor, Ontario. He's been in custody since.

The Detroit Free Press says Dhanayakage threw a tantrum and warned the flight crew everybody was "going to die" after agents brought him aboard a Northwest Airlines jet Feb. 9 at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The agents then removed him.

Dhanayakage was arraigned on Tuesday in Detroit federal court on charges of hindering removal and threats to interfere with a flight crew. He remains in custody.
