Sri Lanka: Visuvamadu Artillery Base Destroyed - Vanni Sources

PTK: Visuvamadu Artillery Base has been captured by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) forces on Monday night. Kiddu Artillery unit infiltrated its way into the Sri Lankan Security Forces (SF) controlled Visuvamadu area and captured 6 artillery pieces from these bases and brought them under their control. The LTTE forces have fired heavy barrages of artilleries towards the Sri Lankan Security Forces (SF) positions in Pallai, Muhamalai, and Killali area. At least 50 SF troopers were killed and large number of SF troopers were injured in the artillery attacks by the LTTE, according to the sources in Vanni.

The LTTE forces destroyed thousands of shells from this base before they destroyed all six pieces of the artilleries and safely returned to their bases, sources added.

Meanwhile, ferociously heavy battles ensued between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lankan Security Forces (SF) in many areas in Vanni including Puthukudiyirupui, (PTK), Chalai, Thevipuram in Mulaitivu starting from midnight on Saturday and still heavy fighting raging in many areas, according to the Vanni sources.

Recent sustained military thrust by the Sri Lankan SF causing huge human catastrophic situation in Vanni where over 300,000 innocent internally displaced civilians being targeted daily from, sea, land and air, killing thousands, injuring thousands by the SF. These civilians were living in subhuman conditions with no access to food, medicines, proper drinking water and sanitary conditions, a local activist still with these civilians told TNS reporter.
