COLOMBO: Senior Journalist Joe Ariyarathnam passed away on Friday. Joe was one of the senior most journalists reporting from Jaffna and other parts of the Northeast and worked for the Associated Press (AP) and Reuters as their correspondent in Jaffna. He was also associated with Star TV (Hong Kong), Al Jazeera and CNN. Joe was always helpful to his colleagues who travelled for reporting the conflict and was liked by all.
He leaves his wife and three children. His remains will lay at the Barney Raymond Funeral Parlour till Saturda and thereafter transported to Jaffna and lay at his residence at 16, Somasundram Avenue, Chundikuli, Jaffna.
Joe was 63 at the time of his death.

An old boy of St. John's college, and long time resident of Chundukuli, lived in his rented residence for decades.
In his last years he had his own share of problems and spent most of his time in Colombo. He had excellent connections with his Sinhalese journalist friends.
